How to Make Time for Me by Fiona Perrin book cover

AD* | No one said being a single mum would be easy.

Everyone knows that being a single mother means having no time to yourself. But for Callie Brown, it's more exhausting than most. She's juggling the needs of three teenage children, two live-in parents, a raffish ex-husband, and a dog who never stops eating.

The last thing Callie needs is anything more on her plate. So when she bumps (quite literally) into a handsome, age-appropriate cyclist, she's quick to dismiss him from her life. After all, if she doesn't have time to brush her hair in the morning, she certainly doesn't have time to fall in love.

Fun and light-hearted but with a very important message, How to Make Time for Me is in equal parts both funny and moving.

The story follows Callie, a single mum trying her best to juggle a multitude of different things just to make ends meet and make her way through life. However, while she's so preoccupied looking after her kids, her parents, and the dog, whilst maintaining friendships and holding down a job, somehow, life just seems to pass her by. Romance is little more than a distant memory for Callie, so when love comes calling, she needs to take a break from juggling everything else and learn how to make time for herself again.

Equally entertaining and emotional, How to Make Time for Me is a realistic version of what life is like for so many people in the world today. As a narrator, Callie is candid and unflinchingly honest - even through the lowest lows she experiences. It's a refreshing take on a contemporary lifestyle and the story benefits all the more from Callie's narration.

Although the book is fictional, it highlights a very real problem that many people are facing in the world today. We all face pressures at every turn, but when they all begin to pile up, it's all too easy to get snowed under and feel completely lost and alone - like poor Callie in the book. However, while it's probably not possible to eradicate all your problems (much as you might wish you could!) there are ways in which you can actively work to manage your time and your stress levels more effectively. That being said, it's also important not to forget that sometimes, it's okay not to be okay, too.

How to Make Time for Me is a strong read and a book that I would recommend - it's the perfect opportunity to sit back, relax, and enjoy some quiet 'me' time with a good book!
