Book Review: Dangerous Remedy by Kat Dunn

Dangerous Remedy by Kat Dunn book cover

Camille, a revolutionary's daughter, leads a band of outcasts – a runaway girl, a deserter, an aristocrat in hiding. As the Battalion des Mortes they cheat death, saving those about to meet a bloody end at the blade of Madame La Guillotine. But their latest rescue is not what she seems. The girl's no aristocrat, but her dark and disturbing powers means both the Royalists and the Revolutionaries want her. But who and what is she?

In these dangerous days, no one can be trusted, everyone is to be feared. As Camille learns the truth, she's forced to choose between loyalty to those she loves and the future.

Thrilling and exciting, Dangerous Remedy is a fast-paced adventure through the streets of Revolutionary Paris.

The Battalion of Death is a team of four individuals who have teamed up to do their part in saving innocent people from the horror of the guillotine. Fearless leader Camille is desperate and highly motivated - after all, she was unable to save her own parents from the guillotine. She is joined by Ada - a budding scientist on the run from her controlling father - and the boys Guil and Al. Guil is a deserter and Al is an aristocrat cast out by his rich family, trying to escape the new revolutionary law.

This band of misfits and outcasts may seem like an unlikely group of allies, but together, the Battalion has saved the lives of countless people.

Dangerous Remedy begins by throwing you straight into the action as the Battalion perform their latest job - a prison break from one of Paris' most notorious prisons. The group is forced to think on their feet in order to survive, and it isn't long before they realise they might just have run out of luck.

With the stakes climbing ever higher and more than just their own lives on the line, each member of the Battalion must choose the path they want to follow. From high society to the worst Parisian slums, Camille and her band of runaways encounter every aspect of Paris in this descriptive, well-written novel.

With book two out soon and hopes for a trilogy, it's the perfect time to transport yourself back to Revolutionary France and the Battalion of Death.
