I smashed past my reading targets in 2020, surpassing my goal of 50 books early on in December. Of course, being stuck at home for most of the year certainly helped to boost my numbers, but I really enjoyed allowing myself more time to read.
So, with 2021 and a lot of uncertainty on the horizon, I've put together a list of five books I want to read this year. I have literally hundreds of unread books sitting on my shelves and my virtual Kindle shelf, so as always, it's been a difficult task to whittle them down to just five books!
Before we get started, let's have a quick recap of how I've fared in previous years:
- 2016: 1/5 books read (now 2/5 books read)
- 2017: 0/5 books read (now 5/5 books read)
- 2018: 2/5 books read (now 5/5 books read!)
- 2019: 4/5 books read (now 5/5 books read)
- 2020: 4/5 books read
Not bad - but I've still yet to complete all five books in a year! Let's hope 2021 will finally break the curse.
Here are the five books I hope to read this year.
A Dark So Deadly by Stuart MacBride
You can't beat a gripping crime thriller to keep you engrossed in a book, and this one sounds great. I've been reading a lot of books set in Scotland and Ireland recently and I think this definitely fits the bill to keep the pattern going. I look forward to curling up with this on a cold winter's night!
Sticks and Stones by Jo Jakeman
This is a twisty psychological thriller that has sat on my shelf unread for far too long! The premise sounds great and I always welcome the opportunity to discover new authors, so here's to hoping that Sticks and Stones manages to live up to my expectations!
Rosie Loves Jack by Mel Darbon
Young Adult fiction will always hold a special place in my heart, so this list would not have been complete without a YA addition. Rosie Loves Jack is one of those old review copies that I never got around to reading, but I'm determined to clear my shelf (one of these days, anyway) and finally get around to reading all the forgotten books like this one.
One Day in December by Josie Silver
I have read several standout romance novels over the last few years and I'm really hoping that this will be another! One Day in December sounds sweet and Christmassy - the only issue is that I might just have to wait until next Christmas to read it!
No Ordinary Killing by Jeff Dawson
Most historical fiction I read is set during WW2, so No Ordinary Killing has been sitting on my shelf for a while waiting to be read. Set during the Boer War, this is a historical crime novel with an intriguing premise. I can't wait to get stuck into the story.

Sticks and Stones sounds just like the type of book I'd enjoy reading
